JSR, Hubei Cofco tie up in breeder pig farm

UK-based pig breeding company JSR Genetics has teamed up with a Chinese firm to introduce purebred pigs from the UK to a pig farm in central China's Hubei province.

Under the programme, 1,000 purebred pigs will be shipped from Britain to the pig farm in Xiangyang city. The farm, which is presently under construction, has a total investment of RMB180 million (US$27.16 million).

As a joint partnership between Hubei provincial Cereals Oils and Foodstuffs Import and Export Group Corporation (Cofco), the farm is planned to produce 50,000 pigs annually.

The two partners did not say when the farm would be completed.
