UK 2007 cereal harvest 19 million tonnes, -9 percent on year
UK farmers harvested 9 percent less grain in 2007 with a crop of 19 million tonnes, according to final estimates issued by the Department for Environment, Food And Rural Affairs on Thursday (January 10, 2008).
Yields of winter cereal crops were down 9-10 percent on the year following a hot, dry spring followed by overly wet conditions two months before harvest, Defra said.
Meanwhile, rapeseed output was estimated to be up 12 percent on the year at 2.1 million tonnes.
A break down of the final 2007 production estimates in million tonnes follow.
