Vietnam heightens supervision of aquaculture farms

All major aquaculture farms and half of small farms in Vietnam are kept under a close watch by the National Fisheries Quality Assurance and Veterinary Directorate (Nafiqaved).

Nguyen Tu Cuong, head of Nafiqaved Nguyen Tu Cuong, said the agency would keep monitoring antibiotic and toxic chemical residues in seafood and aquaculture products.

The agency will also intensify the examination of seafood at collection agents and ensure good sanitary conditions at fishing ships, ports, markets and small processing establishments throughout Vietnam.

Nafiqaved will further look on the quality of products from recognised processors and curb or eradicate the unqualified ones.
