Five-percent pig price hikes could have saved two UK companies

An industry observer in the UK said that a 5-percent increase in pig prices could have prevented the recent closure of DRS Pigs Ltd and MCB Sow Company Ltd.

A EUR0.06 (US$0.06) adjustment in the next few weeks could have pushed the two companies forward, the observer estimated.

The announced bankruptcy of the two companies, which incurred debts of more than GBP3 million (US$5.9 million), surprised the entire UK pig industry.
