US company markets instant E. coli & salmonella test

Cheney Bros, a Florida company, is offering instant E. coli and salmonella tests strips to help consumers detect the feared bacteria that sickened hundreds last year when it was found in bagged spinach last year.

The MMS Salmonella instant strip can detect 50 of the most common and deadliest strains. The strips are submerged in food samples and, if e coli or salmonella bacteria is present, the strip would change color in less than 20 minutes.

The product is available for commercial use only.
