Chicken prices down in Malaysia due to low demand
Chicken prices in Malaysia have been falling in recent weeks due to lower demand, according to a statement from the Federation of Livestock Farmers Associations of Malaysia on Wednesday (Jan 10).
The ex-farm price of live chicken has fallen to RM3.20/kg (US$0.91/kg) from RM4 previously (US$1.14/kg).
Wholesale price of dressed chicken also fell to RM4.45/kg (US$1.27) from RM5.40/kg (US$1.54/kg).
The federation's broiler unit committee member Jeffrey Ng said demand had fallen as people were going to wet markets less during the rainy season. Also, with the school term starting, people are tightening their purse strings, he added.
