An agreement on the overall building systems solutions contract for the new soy factory in Uusikaupunki, Finland has been signed between YIT and SRV Construction Ltd.
The agreement covers the design and implementation of building system solutions for production buildings. The value of the agreement is approximately EUR11 million (US$14.1 million).
The developer of the soy factory is Finnprotein Oy, which is also responsible for the operation of the largest factory in this sector in Europe. The factory will be built in the Orivo industrial area in Uusikaupunki on a 10-hectare plot. There will be about 18 separate buildings or structures built on the lot, the largest ones being a 30 metre-high extraction building and three silos measuring 20 metres wide and 25 metres high.
"We have a great deal of experience in providing building systems solutions through the Design & Build model, and we are constantly developing our expertise in line with this kind of demanding project. We have been responsible also for the design in many projects that we have realised or are currently running. Therefore, we are fully prepared to realise this kind of special target," says Regional Manager Antti Lempiäinen from YIT.
The soy factory will process almost 400,000 tonnes of soy each year. Its main products will be crushed fodder for animals and soy concentrate, which is used as a raw material for protein concentrate in the food industry. In addition, soyoil, lecithin, molasses and mulch is created in the process.
The factory construction work has commenced and it will be ready in 2013.
