US grain exports falls sharply during Christmas week

 

 

US grain exports and sales fell sharply over the Christmas week, with soy sales dropping 83 percent compared to the prior four weeks, according to weekly export data from USDA released January 4 for the week December 21-27.

 

Soy sales were at a marketing year low, a 79 percent drop from the previous week and a 83-percent drop from the prior 4-week average.

 

Net sales of soy cake and soymeal were also at a marketing year low.

 

China continues to be the major customer for US soy, with 226,000 tonnes exported during the week. Thailand comes in at a distant second with 72,400 tonnes exported.

 

Spain and Portugal are the top customers for US sorghum while Japan and Mexico were the top customers for US corn.
