From 15,000 samples of healthy poultry tested in different cities in Vietnam, 5 percent was found to be positive of the bird flu virus.

Nearly 1.8 percent of tested waterfowls bear bird flu viruses, a local newspaper quoted the recent survey by Vietnam's Department of Animal Health.

Highest cases of fowls with bird flu virus were found in Lang Son, Ha Nam and Thai Binh in the northern region, Ha Tinh, DaNang and Quang Nam in the central region, and Long An, Dong Thap, Ca Mau and Tra Vinh in the southern region.

Bird flu is currently detected in the northern Thai Nguyen province and southern Tra Vinh province, according to the health department.
