Brazil 2006 grain output up 3.6 percent year-on-year

 

 

Brazil's grain production, including cereals, oilseed and leguminous crops increased by 3.6 percent to 116.6 million tonnes in 2006, said data of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), Jan 9.

 

Wheat output in the first harvest rose by 15.7 percent and that in the second harvest by 38.7 percent. Output of beans in the first and second harvest went up by 11.2 and 26 percent respectively. The production of soy and sorghum in the second harvest was up by 2.1 and 4.9 percent respectively.

 

Brazil's cultivated area fell by 4.4 percent to 45.5 million hectares.
