Chinese grain firms buy 27 million tonnes of new corn

 

 

China's grain enterprises had purchased 27.04 million tonnes of new corn in major producing areas by December 25, 2011, with state-owned firms' purchases at 5.82 million tonnes, the State Grain Administration said.

 

Meanwhile, the domestic grain companies had purchased 16.61 million tonnes of new non-glutinous rice and 18.15 million tonnes of mid-season and late rice by then.

 

The National Bureau of Statistics earlier said that the country's corn output reached 191.75 million tonnes in 2011, a jump of 8.2% over a year earlier, and its rice production rose 2.6% on-year to 200.78 million tonnes.
