Thermo Fisher scientific solutions suited for dioxin analysis
In light of public concern over the safety of food, particularly as a result of the Irish pork contamination, government agencies and food processors are selecting instruments that can accurately identify and contain the spread of dioxins in the global food supply.
The EU Commission and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have set maximum levels for dioxins in food and tests on some Irish pork products showed that they contained up to 200 times more dioxins than the recognized safety limit.
The directives require limits of quantisation (LOQ) 80 percent lower than the lowest reported level by EPA which requires more demanding detection limits, selectivity and sensitivity to confirm dioxin presence along with tools that manage data, allowing early detection of problems.
To detect even the littlest amount of dioxins in food, the Thermo Scientific DFS requires lesser number of samples for analysis and this way, it could significantly lower the cost for laboratories to conduct these tests.
