China's Chongqing to boost hog production
Twenty-five districts under the jurisdiction of Chongqing Municipality in south-western China had recently joined hands with Changjiang Agriculture, Industrial and Commercial (CAIC) Group to set up an integrated hog production chain.
Through this collaboration, the parties involved are targeting to increase hog inventory level in the region to 3 million heads by 2010 and 6 million heads by 2012.
CAIC is a state-owned company, which was restructured from the Chongqing Nongken Bureau. The Group possesses one of the largest stocks of PIC breed pigs in Asia and holds intellectual property rights to the Yurong No.1 breed.
Under the agreement, CAIC will roll out plans to help impoverish farmers in the various districts to start hog rearing operations under a contract farming system. A credit system will also be set up to help these farmers.
