Farmed Scottish salmon exports to China have rose by 1,172% after three years of increasing business.
In the first 10 months of 2012, 8,675 tonnes of salmon were exported to emerging markets -- more than in all of 2011, according to data from HM Revenue & Customs.
Last month during the largest-ever Scottish food and drink trade mission to Japan and China, an agreement was signed with the World Association of Chefs Societies to promote Scottish salmon and langoustines to its 10 million member chefs across 93 nations.
Anne MacColl, chief executive of Scottish Development International (SDI), said that these latest figures show that Scotland's food and drinks are increasingly in demand across the globe.
Further export growth to China and Japan will be targeted later in 2013, as representatives from the salmon and langoustine sectors, SSPO, Scottish Quality Salmon, SDI and Scotland Food will attend HOFEX 2013, the Far East's leading retail and food service event in Hong Kong in May.
