Nearly 1,000 birds mysteriously die in Vietnam
Authorities are baffled on the mysterious deaths of nearly 1,000 fowls in the central Quang Nam province of Vietnam in the past few days, triggering worries among local residents, Vietnamese newspaper The Youth reported Wednesday (January 7).
The daily said breeders have reported the dead poultry to the local veterinary bureau.
The National Steering Committee for Avian Influenza said this year's first human case infected with the bird flu was an 8-year old girl from northern Thanh Hoa province.
Vietnamese health officials warned last month the country is facing great risks of bird flu reoccurrence and human infection due to the low temperature in winter and spring.
