China corn output to rise 2 percent in 2007

China's corn production in 2007 could rise to 2 percent from 2006's estimated 142 million tonnes, said the China National Grain and Oils Information Centre on Monday, Jan 8.

Chinese corn, wheat and soyoil prices soared after the 2006 harvest, feeding inflation and fuelling a debate on food security as the country also promotes biofuels.

CNGOIC expects acreage planted with corn, rice and rapeseed to rise, while wheat and soybean acreage could fall in 2007.
