Brazil's 2010 grain yield up at about 150 million tonnes
Brazil's 2010 grain crop hit a record 149.5 million tonnes, up 11.6% from the 2009 output of 134 million tonnes, the Brazilian Census Bureau (IBGE) said Thursday (Jan 6) in a December report.
Last year's figure beats the previous record set in 2008, when the country produced 146 million tonnes of grains.
For 2011, the IBGE forecasts a 2.5% decline in grain production, to 145.8 million tonnes, owing mainly to an expected 8.8% decline in southern Brazil.
