Iberia's grain exports experience surge in feed demand

Iberia's grain exports have gotten off to a "buoyant" start in this New Year, according to grain merchant Frontier Agriculture Grain.

The sale of another 15,000 tonnes of feed and wheat out of the company's terminal in Hull is destined for feed customers in Iberia, South-West of Europe.

"While local farmers continue to wait for the new bio-ethanol plant in North Yorkshire to come fully online, we are keeping one of the county's main ports active," said Simon Lock, co-ordinator of the wheat trading book for Frontier.

2010 has started on a good scale, with deep water in the southern ports either calling for spot wheat or bidding for more supply of January/February. The Worldwide Frontier exports from Hull, Southampton and Boston, have exported over one million tonne of cereals, pulses and oilseeds in 2009.

The grain terminal at Hull is 100% owned and operated by the company.
