Perdue Farms signs environmental agreement
Perdue Farms has signed an agreement with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to expand a programme that provides training and other assistance to reduce the environment impact of poultry farms producing for the company.
The agreement will cover producers in Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
Under the programme, poultry farmers will be taught and trained to control runoff and manage litter disposal. As part of the initiative, Perdue's poultry processing facilities will each implement an Environmental Management System, a set of processes and practices designed to reduce environmental impacts and increase operating efficiency.
Perdue Farms is the third largest poultry company in the US, with annual sales in excess of US$3.4 billion. The company provides food, agricultural products and services to customers in more than 50 countries.
