Informa sees 2007-08 Brazil soy production at 60.5 million tonnes
Private analytical firm Informa Economics estimated 2007-08 Brazilian soy production at 60.5 million tonnes, down 2.2 million tonnes from its previous estimate, according to a report released by the firm that was obtained by Dow Jones Newswires.
In December, the US Department of Agriculture estimated Brazil's 2007-08 crop at 62.0 million tonnes.
The firm estimated Argentina's 2007-08 wheat production at 15.850 million tonnes, up 850,000 tonnes from its previous estimate and the 15.0 million tonnes projected by the USDA in December. India's 2008-09 wheat crop was estimated at 72.0 million tonnes compared to the USDA's 2007-08 crop estimate of 74.89 million tonnes in December.
Informa pegged 2008-09 EU wheat production at 140.0 million tonnes, well above the USDA's 2007-08 estimate of a 120.5-million-tonne crop.
The firm pegged Brazil's 2007-08 corn production at 51.3 million tonnes, versus a 50.0 million tonne estimate from the USDA in December. Argentina's 2007-08 corn production was estimated at 24.35 million tonnes, compared to the 22.5 million tonnes projected by the USDA last month.
The USDA is scheduled to release updated US and world production and supply/demand estimates Friday, Jan. 11, at 8:30 a.m. EST.
