Market analysis

Hog market recovered from the momentary correction in the previous week with prices rising 1.6% during the week in review.

While pork demand strengthened, lifting pork carcass volumes in major wholesale centres by 3.4% to reach 9,153 tonnes, supplies of finishing hog were tight. Pork carcass prices rose above RMB23/kg, up by 0.26% on average.

Market forecast

Pork demand is poised to remain robust during January as China prepares for the celebration of Chinese New Year. With supplies of hog limited, prices are expected to rise substantially in the coming weeks.
