In an aim to promote sustainable fishing, the National Commission of Aquaculture and Fisheries (CONAPESCA) has allocated MXN73.1 million (US$5.6 million) to 103 producer organisations in 18 states of the country.

The central purpose of the scheme is to promote the sustainable use of fisheries and aquaculture, through the delivery of support to assist in the implementation of preventive and operational inspection and surveillance activities in the sector. It is also hoped to combat illegal fishing.

From the said allocation, MXN21.5 million (US$1.6 million) were granted to organisations in Sinaloa and MXN10.6 million (US$807,000) to Sonora, among others.
