Venezuela's 2013 poultry, livestock prices up 135%
 

 

In 2013, Venezuela's wholesale prices of poultry and livestock products have increased 135%, according to the Central Bank of Venezuela.

 

This food sector reported higher prices for inputs such as feed animal, which are mostly imported, and salaries, among other costs which affect the production chain.

 

Despite regulation of the prices of chicken and beef meat at VEF18.73 and VEF27.29 (US$3 and US$4.34), respectively, in the market these meats are sold more expensive. A kilogramme of poultry meat reaches between VEF35 and VEF45 (US$5.57 and US$7.16) and beef meat, among others, between VEF90 and VEF130 (US$14.31 and US$21).

 

A wholesale inflation was experienced by the poultry and livestock sector at 103.1% in nine months and 8.1% in September. Prices of wholesale agricultural products rose 71.2% in one year and 50% from December to September. Agricultural consumer goods were up 4% in September, totalling 47.3% in nine months and 83.2% in a year.
