Vietnam's 2011 seafood exports earned US$6 billion, an on-year rise of 20% and surpassing the set target by US$5.7 billion.

According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), in 2011, the country's total seafood output reached 5.2 million tonnes, up 1.4% over 2010.

The total aquaculture area increased by 2.5% to 1,093 hectares.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has set a target of earning US$6.5 billion from aquatic product exports in 2012, up 5% from 2011.
