China to set up food traceability system

China will build a traceability system for food especially meat, vegetables and liquor products in 2011-15 to ensure circulation safety and smooth operation of the market, the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said Wednesday (Jan 4).

The country will strengthen monitoring on daily necessities such as grain, meat, vegetables and cooking oil, as well as key production and distribution enterprises, while releasing market information timely to stabilise expectations.

The MOC will also improve the nation's reserve system for daily necessities to ensure market supply and check sharp fluctuation of prices during the period.
