Centurion acquires Pureline Genetics

Georgia-based Centurion Poultry has purchased all assets, genetic stock and trade names from Connecticut-based Pureline Genetics LLC, effective January 1, 2009.

The purchase will mark Centurion's return to the broiler breeding business, which it left in 1993 in order to focus on the further development of its market for layer breeding stock.

The acquisition fits into the company's plans and will help to further diversify its poultry business, according to Centurion president Gijs Schimmel.

While there will be very few operational changes at Pureline's base in Preston, Connecticut, there will be an overhaul in the domestic and international marketing and customer support departments. The restructuring is expected to be completed by the summer of 2009.

Centurion Poultry Inc. is involved in the production and sale of breeding stock and commercial egg layer chicks to the egg industry. The company has satellite locations in Alabama, Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.
