Hanoi intensifies livestock slaughter control for New Year Festival

The Hanoi City Veterinary Department has tightened slaughtering and transport of poultry and cattle to ensure food hygiene and safety for the upcoming Tet or Lunar New Year Festival.

Livestock movement in wholesale markets and slaughter houses in the city will be tightly monitored, the department said.

The agency has already promoted information campaign on food hygiene and safety regulations as well as implemented sterilisation work at markets and transport centres, such as Ha Vi in Thuong Tin, Guot in Phu Xuyen, Minh Khai in Tu Liem and Ba La in Ha Dong.

Hanoi now has more than 260,000 heads of buffalo and oxen, 1.6 million pigs and over 14 million heads of poultry, capable of providing 70 to 80 percent of Hanoians' demand for food during Tet. The city has 41 slaughter houses and more than 41 shops and supermarkets selling high-quality meat.
