British seafood firm plans US$7 million seafood processing village
Great Grimsby Seafood Village Ltd will submit a formal planning application to the local council in north eastern Lincolnshire, Grimsby, this month to build the first stage of Britain's first dedicated seafood processing village.
The project will be developed in two stages on a vacant 30- acre site on the edge of Grimsby Fish Docks, with work starting almost immediately on the first phase of 20 units, each comprising 2,000 square feet of working space, plus an additional 1,500 square feet for offices and storage.
The second stage will be similar in size, but with applications for the first 20 units are already over subscribed, work is expected to begin sooner than anticipated.
Great Grimsby Seafood Village Ltd managing director Peter Dalton said they are looking forward to open the village at the end of the year as response from local merchants and processors has been excellent.
Dalton said they also gathered interest from processors in other UK ports who may want to expand into Grimsby.
He added that the processing facility would be vital for inter-trading.
The ultra green development will include a recycled water supply, containers for catching rainwater which will then be cleaned for washing purposes and solar panels for power.
