Tighter UK cattle supply in 2015 seen
Beef cattle supply in the UK is expected to remain tight this year, according to EBLEX, the organization for the English beef and sheep industry.
In its latest livestock population statistics, EBLEX has revised downwards the number of cattle between one and two years of age, indicating a tighter beef supply situation this year.
The total number of cattle and calves in the UK in June 2014 was nearly unchanged year-on-year at just over 9.8 million.
While the UK's dairy herd is revised upwards by over 3% to 1.84 million head, the beef herd is estimated to have fallen by 3% to 1.57 million head.
