India sows 276.43 hectares of wheat

India's wheat sowing reached 276.43 hectares on December 30 compared to 277.95 lakh hectare last year, according to Ministry of Agriculture.

Higher coverage has been seen in Madhya Pradesh (4.69 lakh hectare), Rajasthan (3.20 lakh hectare), Bihar (0.72 lakh hectare), Jharkhand (0.37 lakh hectare) and Chhattisgarh (0.18 lakh hectare).

Rice transplanting is in progress in Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Odisha and Karnataka. The total area under rice is 4.13 lakh hectare against 3.49 lakh hectare during the corresponding period of last year.

Meanwhile, the pulses have been sown in 138.54 lakh hectare as against 140.28 lakh hectare last year and the total area under oilseeds cultivation is reported to be 79.22 lakh hectare against 84.57 lakh hectare last year.
