India's feed dealers protest over tax imposition

Feed sales companies in India's Chadigarh have threatened to shift over to other regions following the imposition of a four percent value added tax on poultry industry.

In a memorandum submitted to Union Territory Administrator, S.F. Rodrigues, the Chandigarh Poultry Medicine and Supplements Dealers' Association stated that poultry feed and feed supplements are tax-free in all the states of the country.

The memorandum mentioned that the dealers of poultry feed and its supplements are also involved in poultry medicines and vaccines and they are currently paying a sizeable tax of four percent to the administration.

If the four percent value added tax on poultry feed and its supplements is not withdrawn, dealers will shift to the neighboring states of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. This will result in losses of revenue to the administration, the memorandum added.
