Swine fever in Russia under control

There have been no new outbreaks of swine fever in the last 6 weeks in Russia, according to the country's Department of Agriculture.

The previous outbreak of the African swine fever was reported in November 2008, spreading in Russia's southern Stavropol Territory.

The country was plagued with the African strain of swine fever initially in August and September, causing the government to impose restrictions in certain parts of the country.

Russia has culled over 19,000 pigs since its first outbreak in October 2008.
