Indonesia approves 84 fish processors for export to China
Indonesia's Fisheries and Maritime Ministry will allow 84 local fish processing plants to export fish to China, starting from February 1, 2009.
The 84 processing units have been registered after considering their export qualifications, said Nazori Djazuli, the ministry's Director for Standardisation and Accreditation.
Djazuli added that fish exports to China from units other than the approved 84 will be considered as illegal.
The regulation is a follow up to the agreement between the two countries to supervise seafood trade and export to China. Qualifications were made by the Ministry to maintain quality standards and food security of exports to China.
Before the registration process, the 84 units have already exported seafood products to China, with most of them based in Java.
