2nd International Ornamental Fish Trade and Technical Conference

February 8 – 10, 2017

Colombo, Sri Lanka

The 2nd International Ornamental Fish Trade and Technical Conference will take place in Colombo, Sri Lanka, currently the sixth-largest supplier of ornamental fish to the global market, on February 8-10, 2017. The event's venue is the 5-star Kingsbury hotel, which is 35 minutes from the Bandaranayake International Airport.

Organised by Infofish, one of the FISHINFONetwork members, the event will comprise a two-day conference and one-day field trip to ornamental fish farms in the country. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss issues facing the global ornamental fish industry, including ways to increase production through capture and culture fisheries; introduction and breeding of exotic species; and health management and biosecurity measures.

The major pillar underpinning these discussions will be sustainability, in recognition of its importance in the management of stocks, and impact on the environment and social development. The conference will also highlight the latest developments in packaging and transportation, and changes in international market and trade patterns.

World trade in ornamental fish has become a billion-dollar industry, with total wholesale and retail values estimated at US$1 billion and $3 billion, respectively. Some 55% of the global market supplies originate from Asia, where the sector contributes significantly to the national economies of the countries involved.

International Conference on Marine Science & Aquaculture 2017

March 14 – 15, 2017

Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia

The theme for this year's International Conference on Marine Science & Aquaculture, or ICOMSA, is "New Frontier in Sustainable Marine Bioresources". This topic is of global relevance and is particularly important for a country such as Malaysia where marine ecosystem services play a significant role in socio-economic development, aquaculture industry is growing at a fast rate and seafood consumption is high.

The conference program will include papers dealing with overcoming the challenges through innovative solutions. The conference's goal is to demonstrate how science and new ideas can provide the best possible solutions to our ever-changing marine environment and address existing and evolving challenges that are critical for ocean ecosystem balance and sustainability of benefits we derive from ocean-based economies such as fisheries, aquaculture and ecotourism.

ICOMSA started in 2003 as the "Annual Seminar on Marine Science and Aquaculture" at Universiti Malaysia Sabah. It provided a platform to exchange knowledge about the marine ecosystem and development of aquatic food resources through sustainable fisheries and aquaculture. In 2014, this annual event was rebranded and is now known as the "International Conference on Marine Science and Aquaculture".
