US North Dakota's December wheat prices remain strong

The prices for North Dakota wheat crops last month were down from November but are still near historic record level.

The Agriculture Department says farmers in December received an average of US$8.15 per bushel for the state's staple crop, spring wheat. The Grand Forks Herald reports that the figure is down US$0.52 from November but still a record for December marketings.

The state's farmers typically sell about 10% of the spring wheat crop in December. From 2005 to 2010, December prices for spring wheat at North Dakota grain elevators averaged less than US$5.50 per bushel.
