US to declare cloned livestock safe for consumers

The US Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) is anticipated to declare next week that meat and milk from cloned animals are safe to eat, the Wall Street Journal said on Thursday.

The FDA previously disallowed producers of cloned livestock from selling food products from such animals pending its ruling on their safety.

The decision would come after more than six years of pondering on the issue. It is expected to be a milestone for US biotech companies, which have been eyeing on cloned animal production.
