Feed output from China's Yunnan surpasses RMB6 billion
Production value of feed products from China's south-western province of Yunnan had surpassed the RMB6-billion mark, according to information released at the twentieth anniversary celebration of the Yunnan Feed Industry Association held recently in the provincial capital of Kunming.
Presently, there are some 350 feed millers and feed product manufacturers in Yunnan. In 2007, total output by these companies amounted to 2.25 million tonnes. About 92.1 percent of these products, which include feed premixes, trace minerals, feed-grade enzymes and phytase, was awarded certification for attaining quality standards.
Feed companies in Yunnan have also played their part in advancing knowledge on livestock and poultry raising. Each year, these companies would incur additional expenses in programmes to assist farmers in feed preparation and ways to improve animal health.
Over the past decade, Yunnan's feed companies had also grown significantly in terms of size and output. Some home-grown big names from Yunnan include the Shenlong Group and Kunming-Chia Tai.
Shenlong Group is the owner of 12 subsidiary companies located throughout China and its total yearly feed production amounted to 300,000 tonnes. Kunming-Chia Tai, established in the early 1990s, currently produces more than 130,000 tonnes of feed annually.
