Sri Lanka lifts ban on day-old chick imports

Sri Lanka's government said it has lifted the ban on day-old chick imports to maintain a stable supply of chicken meat and eggs.

According to the All Island Poultry Association, countries free of bird flu including India, France and Britain would be allowed to export day-old chicks to Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka had banned all poultry imports in October last year due to concerns that bird flu might enter the country.

Meanwhile, the government still banned imports of whole chickens and chicken parts.
