Zhangzidao Group to acquire Dalian Xinzhonghai for US$46.19 million
Zhangzidao Group has signed a memorandum with Hongkong Tianhui Industrial Co., Ltd. (Tianhui) for the acquisition of Dalian Xinzhonghai Food Co., Ltd. (Xinzhonghai). Zhangzidao Group plans to buy 100% shares of Xinzhonghai from the controlling shareholder Tianhui for RMB280 million (US$46.19 million).
As a seafood company based in Dalian, Xinzhonghai is mainly engaged in the processing and sale of fish, shrimps, crabs and shellfish. The company also owns, operates and leases cold storages for seafood.
Zhangzidao Group says that China's exports of aquatic products are heavily focused on loosely processed pre-formed products, which face strong competition while the profitability is low. With the expertise in deep processing, Xinzhonghai's products are well-established in the international markets. In addition, Xinzhonghai has established sales outlets in Japan. The acquisition of the company will help Zhangzidao Group enhance the processing capability of seafood and promote its own brand in the Japanese market.
Zhangzidao Group also says that there is huge potential in the Chinese seafood industry, which is on the threshold of a boom. With the changes in consumption patterns, seafood sales are increasing rapidly in China.
Meanwhile, exports of Chinese seafood products are gaining pace steadily. In 2010, 2011 and 2012, the export value of the country's seafood was US$51.85 billion, US$67.40 billion and US$69.63 billion, respectively; while in the first nine months of 2013, China exported US$44.15 billion worth of seafood, a rise of 12% on-year.

FAAS's fermented bed technology to help increase profit in pig farming
Fujian Academy of Agricultural Sciences(FAAS) has invested in an ecological livestock farming project that aims to use microbial fermentation technology for pig breeding.
FAAS has started the second phase of the construction for the project. Upon completion, only one worker will be required to operate a 2,000m2 or 4,000m2 pig barns, which are able to accommodate 4,500 to 9,000 pigs.
The academy plans to use the self-invented fermentation bed, which feeds on the pig waste but also creates a living compost to improve soils. The technology will not only clean and disinfect the pig barns, but will also be able to produce biological matrix and fertilisers, thus increase the profit in the pig production.
