China Xinjiang's cotton stockpiles reach 1.14 million tonnes
Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has stored about 1.14 million tonnes of cotton by December 20, the China National Grain and Oils Information Centre (CNGOIC) said Friday (Dec 30).
The contingency cotton reserves include the inventories held by the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, a major player in the region's cotton industry.
The centre quoted the region's development and reform department as saying that Xinjiang's cotton reserves account for about 67% of the national total.
Xinjiang is the biggest cotton production base in China, yielding around 40% of the total cotton output in the country.
