Philippines Has Potential To Succeed In Halal Poultry

The Philippines is able contribute a lot in the production of one of the four major priority sectors of the Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines-East Asean Growth Area (Bimp-Eaga) -- the halal poultry industry.

According to Romeo Castañaga, planning officer of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) 11, the Philippines can make use of its bird flu-free status.

Castañaga added that the present number of key poultry players in the country can significantly help increase the production.

He said the country can get feeds from Malaysia and Indonesia since corn prices in the two countries are very cheap while Brunei can take the lead in halal certification.

The Halal poultry products will be marked as "product of Bimp" before they are exported to various Islamic countries.
