South Dakota's hog, pig inventory down 14% on-year
 

 

As of December 1, South Dakota's inventory of all hogs and pigs was 1.2 million head, down 14% from a year ago and down 7% from September 1.

 

The South Dakota office of USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service said market hogs totalled 1.035 million head, down 16% from last year and down 7% from September.

 

Breeding stock totalled 165,000 head, down 3% from December 2011 and down 6% from September.

 

The September-November pig crop was 936,000 head, unchanged from last year, but down 3% from the previous quarter.
