Northern Beef Packers to open new beef plant in May 2009
South Dakota-based Northern Beef Packers plans to open its new beef facility in May.
The US$40 million plant will have a processing capacity of 700 cattle per day.
Dennis Hellwigs, the head of the company, said the plant will be larger and costlier than originally planned.
A South Korean consortium had invested US$35 million into the project under a government economic migrant scheme that enables investors to receive a US Permanent Resident Card.
The beef plant has encountered many problems, including quoted price dispute between construction contractors.
