North Dakota hogs up by 7 percent
North Dakota produces 182,000 hogs as of 1 December 2007, registering an increase of 13,000 or 7 percent from the same period in 2006.
The North Dakota Agricultural Statistics Service noted that the highest recorded number of hogs in the state in 1943 at 1.1 million.
The breeding inventory for the state was 37,000, up 4,500 from 2006. The total pig production was 611,000, rising by 81,000, the biggest rise since 1961.
Market inventory totaled 144,500 in 2007, up by 8,500 from 2006.
