The volume of pig meat leaving UK abattoirs for much of this year has been lower than year-ago levels, a contributory factor in the firmness of farmgate prices, according to the latest market commentary from Quality Meat Scotland (QMS).
World pig meat output is forecast to record a sharp contraction for the second year in a row, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization's (FAO) Food Outlook biannual report on global food markets.
After a five-month pork promotional campaign mounted by the UK levy body Agriculture & Horticulture Development Board (AHDB), a survey showed that 90% of the people who saw the promo aired on TV said that the commercial portrayed pork as a healthy food choice.
