Australian cotton expected to have record harvest
The weather has favoured Australian cotton harvest which may total up to 4.8 million bales in 2012, according to Michael Murray from Cotton Australia.
Some of the plants are growing from seed purchased with money from the Cotton Industry Flood Relief Fund.
Fifty-nine growers in Queensland's Dawson, Emerald, Darling Downs and Border Rivers regions and the Macquarie Valley in New South Wales received money from the Fund.
They had all been flooded last summer and lost most of their cotton crop.
While Murray says, prices have come back from the highs of last year, they are still sitting around AUD425-450 a bale (US$431-456).
