Aviagen held seminar for Ross GP specialists in Belarus

Aviagen had recently organised a seminar for Plemreproductor Broiler of OAO Agrocombinat Dzerzhinsky, a Ross^® grandparent (GP) customer in the Republic of Belarus.

The underlying theme of the event was 'Back to Basics'.

Taking place near Minsk, the two-day seminar combined theoretical and practical training for the 15 participants in attendance as well as visits to two GP farms.

Marcel Janssen, Aviagen's regional technical manager for Eastern Europe and the CIS, talked about using the 'Back to Basics' concept as a tool for solving various production issues. A few simple applications of this principle have sparked lively discussions among participants, thus stimulating an exchange of ideas.

Zoltan Marton, a veterinarian, focused on effective farm cleaning and disinfection procedures and practices while Goran Slunjski, Aviagen's technical service manager, delivered two presentations on management factors and procedures that are crucial during rearing and production periods, in order to optimise GP production and achieve the best output of high-quality parent stock chicks.

The second day of the event saw attendees divided into two groups as they visited two GP farms for practical training. The visits allowed participants to observe the effects of management practices on production in a real-live situation as well as exposing them to options for improving these practices and achieving better results.

Thereafter, Marton talked about effective biosecurity programmes, using the farm visit to support his recommendations.

The participants were presented with certificates of accomplishment on GP management training after completing a post-seminar test.

"These two days allowed our GP specialists, especially our younger managers to focus on the most important principles and methods of GP management which should help them to develop new skills and confidence in working with Ross birds," said Yuri Feslin, the director of PPR Broiler.
