Vietnam's 2011 meat imports have reached 107,000 tonnes, up 30.5% from that of last year, with prices of pork, beef and poultry remain stable in the domestic market, said the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
In big cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Haiphong and Danang, local firms have stocked large volume of basic food to provide for markets during the Lunar New Year festival or Tet Holiday, which will last nine days and start from January 21.
Vietnam has poultry flocks of 325 million this year, increasing 8.2% on year. The country also has 27.8 million of pigs, 2.72 million of buffalos and 5.4 million of cows.
The country's farmers have produced 4.31 million tonnes of live animals, 340,000 tonnes of milk and 6.34 billion of eggs this year, the ministry said.
