US-based Smithfield partners with VisionAg for new swine production venture
US-based Smithfield has entered into an agreement with VisionAg, LLC, an affiliate of HD3 Farms, to supply swine as an independent pork producer.
HD3 Farms is one of the largest wean-to-finish and finishing growers in the US.
As part of the agreement, Smithfield and VisionAg will establish a new entity, VisionAg Hog Production, LLC. Smithfield will hold a minority interest in the company. VisionAg Hog Production will acquire ownership of 28,000 sows currently owned by Smithfield, along with the market swine they produce. The new company is anticipated to have the capacity to produce 600,000 swine annually to support Smithfield's fresh pork operations.
Smithfield will continue to provide essential services to VisionAg Hog Production, including feed supply, transportation, and other hog production-related support.
The transaction is slated to close in early 2025.
HD3 Farms has been a long-term partner of Smithfield, serving as a contract grower for over 20 years. The company oversees 250,000 wean-to-finish and finish spaces across farms in eight counties in North Carolina, US, including Bladen, Columbus, Duplin, Hoke, Pender, Robeson, Scotland, and Sampson.
