US eyes Chile as potential brewers grains market
Chile have conducted successful feed trials with dairy cattle by using brewers grains mixed with additives, and this may present an opportunity for the US.
Brewers grains is a byproduct of ethanol production, and feed trial results show positive influence of the grains on milk yields and composition of milk.
The US Grains Council is looking forward to export the brewers grains to Chile, which has imported 70,000 tonnes of the product this year. In 2007, Chile imported 35,000 tonnes of the brewers grains.
Brewers grains remains warm from the brewing process and is a cheap food supplement. It has also been used for winter feed in England for over 80 years.
